Nayla will catalog our first explicitly curricular collection--zines in Spanish purchased by Almudena Marin Cobos with funds from the DEI office for use in Professor Marin Cobos's Elementary Spanish II classes. Professor Marin Cobos has been teaching with zines since Spring 2023. She has students read and discuss Spanish-language zines, as well as create them. Professor Marin Cobos brings the students to the zine library for the zine sessions, which have been led by Nayla, who, now that she has graduated, will serve as an official guest lecturer in the class.
As a student, Nayla innovated Spanish language zine descriptions in CLIO and was profiled on the Barnard home page for curating an exhibit of zines for Hispanic Heritage Month. Ask Nayla why she chose to use the word "Hispanic" rather than Latine, Latinx, etc. She has a Lot Of Thoughts about language and sociolinguistics.
