Poem from Hoosai (from Hoodlums and Crazy Saints) #1 by Ianna Owen.
Published in 2002 when the author was in her mid-teens, Hoosai gives lie to the mean-but-unfortunately-often-true notion that high school poetry is kind of bad.

poem: Honesty
This poem and many of the others in two issues we have of Hoosai [Zines W69h 2002-] surprised me, especially after I realized that the author was a high school sophomore or junior. I wasn't at all surprised when I looked her up online to get permission to share these images from her zine, to learn that she was a college valedictorian (Hunter '08) and is in grad school pursuing a PhD. I was also happy to learn that she's a campus radical.
