new zines

Two weeks ago I was on my way to the Zine Librarians unConference in Iowa City, and last week I was on staycation, so it feels like I haven't cataloged a zine in FOREVER.

This is what I was doing instead--still pretty fun!

Booklyn Artists Alliance is having a 24-Hour Zine Event starting Saturday, July 27th! Described as an "OVERNIGHT ZINE FACTORY / SLUMBER PARTY / MEDIA JAM," this is one party that you don't want to miss!

And now for something completely different, I'm cataloging zines from Keight Bergmann's personal collection, plus a few from through the transom and the internet.

Also, today is Insurance Awareness Day, apparently. Insert derisive comment on the health insurance industry and US healthcare here.

I remember from elementary school that June 14th is Flag Day, hence the title of this post.

I'm back to working my way through Keight's enormous donation, but like to mix things up with a few current-day zines I received in the mail (Hi Cindy & Daisy!).

Keight's photo/my hands.

Today, I'm cataloging a bunch of zines that I ordered, a few that were hand-delivered, and when I'm done with them getting back to Keight's delightful donation.

The Flyaway Zine Mobile is headed to Madison, Wisconsin this weekend! You can browse the Zine Mobile's collection, participate in an open zine-reading event, and take part in Protest Karaoke! More info on the Zine Mobile's website!

Though the days of couples carving their initials into treestumps and undeniable love-at-first-sight reside only in fiction, the fact is, you can't deny the appeal of falling in love while wrapping yourself in a Snuggie and slurping instant noodle soup. Online dating services allow users to construct and hide behind tippy-top versions of themselves and simultaneously lust over the photoshopped versions others. While one could argue that these websites such as OK Cupid attempt to build love from sham, statistics show that online dating was the root of  17% of last year's marriages.

Have the hots for librarians? Check out two library students' new fanzine Our Library Crushes (pdf) that includes G- Rated pics of their favorite librarians, including Barnard College's very own zine librarian Jenna Freedman!  Zines S674c 2012
