Check out this amazing interview with punk rocker Alice Bag, on her new autobiography Violence Girl: A Chicana Punk Story. Beyond the book itself (which I really really want to buy and read in the few hours of free time I have in between classes and homework), she discusses punk identity and how that intersects with her own identity as a Chicana woman. Not Your Mother's Meatloaf is doing an all-call for zine submissions on the theme of Endings - due January February 1st! The project strives "to challenge hetero and gender normative practices in sexuality education" through stories and comics that represent a wider spectrum of topics that should be taught in sex ed. Make sure to check out their past issues at the Sex Ed Comic Blog.
Drawing on the inspiration of doing the Meet Me at the Race Riot zine event, I decided to teach everyone in the world how to make a micro-mini zine - otherwise known as a 16-page mini booklet made out of one sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 paper. Enjoy!

Carrie Colbitts is collecting submissions on being trans or genderqueer and going through puberty/adolescence for her 7-12th grade students.
Get ready for the grand opening of PEOPS, a gallery show featuring "a collection of portraits & stories of people by Fly. Each page contains a new face surrounded by words - for the most part the words are a story that the person tells about themselves or about something they experienced or about something they heard..." at the Lower East Side Girl's Club on Thursday November 10th, 6-8pm. You know that feeling you get on your birthday when you're seven years old and there's a giant wrapped gift box waiting for you when you wake up? That sweet mixture of excitement, nervousness, and curiosity about what amazing things you're going to find inside? That's how I felt when I opened this donation from A.j. Michel (whose website you can access by clicking her name!). There are 77 new zines waiting to enter our lovely collection… one might say we have "zines for days" here at the Barnard Library.
